Dance and Yoga Instructor, Heather Halk, is pleased to bring her unique perspective back to the Sacramento area. Born into an artistic family, music and dance were simply a way of life; she began performing at age four. As Heather grew so did her love of movement and her ability to share it: a few years later she began assisting her mother's dance program with teaching and choreography. Heather has danced with Applegate Dance Co., Phares Theatre Ballet, The Young Americans, Pomona College Dance Co., as well as performed and choreographed for various productions in the greater LA area. During her time as a Fulbright fellow, she collaborated with Indonesian and Russian artists to produce, choreograph, and perform "Blunder", a two-hour interactive, interdisciplinary artistic adventure, in West Java, Indonesia.
While Heather's technique and experience is rooted in classical ballet, she has always been drawn to explore and expand her movement capabilities. Her teaching is informed by many traditions, cultures, and techniques and includes: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hula, Modern, Contemporary, Swing, Salsa, Jaipongan (traditional dance of west Java) and Yoga.
"I enjoy working with dancers of all ages and levels, what I care about is the joy you bring to your movement. I go by my mother's philosophy, if you can talk you can sing, if you can walk you can dance! I do however believe that a foundation in solid technique is an invaluable platform from which a dancer can truly soar.
My greatest joy is facilitating a class that allows dancers to flourish in both their technical training and personal expression."
